Sun-kissed fruit and vegetables, dazzling flowers, quality crafts, even flea markets and antiques - you can find anything in the markets of Geneva! If you enjoy a stroll in the summer, the Genevan region is a gold mine! Here is our partial selection of recommended stalls and sites.
First, there is Geneva and its various districts. One of the biggest flea markets in Switzerland is held in the Plaine de Plainpalais every Saturday, for example. And on Sundays, the site is covered in fruits, vegetables and flowers... However, the most eclectic place in Geneva remains La Fusterie. A different little market turns up here almost every day of the week - crafts on Thursdays, books on Tuesdays and Fridays, retail goods on Saturdays...
Then there is Carouge, a charming little Genevan market town. On Wednesdays and Saturdays, you will find a colorful market here with stalls set out under the welcome shade of the plane trees. The ambiance is truly Mediterranean! To discover all the charms and secrets of Carouge, be sure to sign up for the guided tours organized by the town - CHF 10.00 per person. Subjects covered include:
secret courtyards and gardens, artists and craftsmen, the history of the streets, the history of the water, literature and life etc. More information at: http://www.carouge.ch/jahia/Jahia/cache/offonce/accueil/pid/132
